Legs the Rabbit

This is the latest installment in my painterly animals series. I have been doing portraits in this style for 6 years years now and the act creating them never grows old.

In looking at some earlier images that I have created, I think that they hold up because I was always true to myself and what I wanted out of my subjects. To see more portraits, please visit my site.

My work featured in "On Flora & Fauna" at The Artist's House Gallery

Recently, I was approached by Tony Morinelli, Director of Artist's House Gallery in Phila., PA.
He was interested in showing my work and wanted to know about my process. I was intrigued that a gallery that has shown painting and sculpture almost exclusively wanted to include my portraits.

Being the show's only photographer, I was an outlier, but I felt very much in good company. The viewers were very interested in my process, but the subjects were the stars, regardless of  the medium.

I have such a deep respect for painting and all of the time and craftsmanship that goes into it. It's an honor to have photography shown among paintings and have the collective beauty and style be the main focus.

An Amazing Journey

I remember when I started this blog years ago with my dog portraits. If you had told me that I would have one of my images on the cover of a book, I would have said great and smiled dismissively. If you told me it would be Billy Collins, I would have said that you are out your mind.

I don't measure success in a commercial way, but by how happy doing this work makes me feel. When it makes others happy and it enriches their lives, that is a great side effect. This portrait was made for my enjoyment of creative expression and not for commercial gain.

I celebrate the fact that I made this image by the process of which I made all of the creative choices from start to finish.

Now that to me is pure poetry.

Much has been happening...

As I look back over the last few months of not posting it's hard to know where to start. As my work continues to grow in a creative way, it has grown in a business sense as well. Along with private commissions, which I enjoy the most, are commercial and editorial clients wanting something specific. This piece was done for the Wall St. Journal on how chicken is taking over beef in the marketplace.

Head First

I am always looking for ways to hone and distill my style down to what I think its essence might be. Here, with Suky’s image, I took away everything else environmentally and concentrated on my subject and how the light was playing upon her. I didn’t have any other distractions that an out door environment would pose and had the luxury of waiting for the precise moment to get the image that I had thought about beforehand.

There are more of these to come along with a new website. Stay Tuned!

Pets Doing Bad Things

In reference to pets doing bad things, here we have Taco and Hoagy in a piece entitled "Hoagy's Revenge". We wanted to portray what happened after that perfect Kodak moment and everything got totally out of hand.

With my projects, I am always trying to push the envelope. This is important to me because it keeps things fresh and it attracts clients who want something new and different. Like tasty samples at a grocery store, they want to have an idea of what they are getting  before taking that leap of faith.

What inspired the idea is that I always hear owners talking about the mischievous things that their little trouble makers do. I love the idea of a series like this but I'm starved for ideas. What does your little angel do when they think you're not looking?

View this post on Instagram Along with my recent cover @the_bark_mag , I was also given a feature article. Some new work...
